Recycled stand

Earlier this year we bought a little dark wood stand for the bathroom, it has a pretty Moorish carved pattern.  It's finally next to the bath, painted & holding a cute plant; ready for a book during a nice long bath!

It was another one of those things that took an age to find but finally we have just the right thing, yay! x

Hols

We've got a week off starting Friday (hurrah); needless to say it's been a mad mad week at work making sure everything's done, and lots of do at home before we go too, but it'll be worth it.

We're off to find some sun (hopefully) & som rest in the Canary islands.  I've set up some posts whilst I'm away & I'll catch up with you when I'm back.

Embroidered ribbon & vinyl

The main haberdashery shop I use in Leicester, the Button Boutique, always have something extra for me, and a couple weekends ago was no exception.  They were selling off these great pieces of embroidered ribbon cheaply, so I treated myself to these fab pieces...

I might use them as bag handles to add something extra, or just as trim, we'll see.  They remind me of ribbons from childhood and bring up visions of Austria for some reason.

Hubby brought home some charity shop vinyl on Friday which included the fabulous "Magic Roundabout"! And lots of Ant music for him :)

We also lit the wood burner for the first time this season, oooo it was lovely & toasty, bring on the cold weather

Christmas crafting - fabric wallets

Well, after a week of nasty migraine & headaches I'm feeling pretty much like myself again!  In between the thumping I've been working on more Christmas pressies.  This time round I've made fabric wallets for family & friends.  I did two batches in all as I was pleased with the first lot I did but wanted to improve too.

and one for myself too...

They were pretty easy to make, although keeping them straight isn't the easiest thing to do!

The second batch turned out better I think...

And it was fun trawling through my button jar deciding what looked best.  Think I may make more of these in the future (depending on how well they are received!). x

Christmas crafting - book bags

I'm still trying to get Christmas pressies made whenever I can - I've already knitted a couple more scarves, and today I managed to finish several more book bags, some from the funky fabrics I got recently and some from cute tea towels...

Map tea towel

one for my niece with an internal pocket

a sewing-inspired-fabric one for my sister-in-law (who's a fabric technician)

this one's made from an Australian Aborigine print tea towel

and another from a vintage glass-linen tea towel

I've also been working on some cute fabric wallets - will post the photos when they're completed

It's been so much fun! x

Beautiful crafting tins

You may remember last year's post about some lovely biscuit tins I bought from the Christmas range at Marks and Spancers to keep craft supplies in.  Well I've done the same again this year, M&S have again got some fab tins, these are the ones which now hold more supplies (and of course Hubby's enjoying the biscuits!) ...

now holding my maps

full of stamps

they also have lots of other cute ones which I've managed to leave on the shelf... so far...

... so far :D

Have a fabulous weekend; hopefully we're seeing friends (if they're all better). x

Vintage bathroom

I have always loved beautiful display cabinets, and have before seen gorgeous glass bathroom cabinets in books from Pottery Barn & Martha Stewart.  Because they usually cost an arm and a leg I decided to create my own.  It started last year in finding just the right size of vintage display cabinet for £30.  Well, much procrastinating & a garage cleaning later & I undercoated & layered on coats of white gloss, scaped & polished the glass, until finally at the weekend Hubby was able to bring it inside for me to fill.

I was so excited as I've had some lovely glass containers I've been saving for the cabinet & finally got to get them all out & fill up containers with goodies.  I also got to use those fab vintage medicine bottles I posted about last year.

I still have the jars to fill with salts & the large glass holder on top of the unit is to be filled with Lush ballistics!  I've had to leave the original silk on the back although it's stained, it looks quite nice in reality, but we'll see long term.  I'm really pleased with it & can't stop looking at it! x

Puppy love

My Uncle breeds shooting dogs (spaniels) & naturally keeps at least one female from each litter for himself; he always hopes for lots of little ladies as they're better financially for him.  Well, his most recent litter consisted of 1 girl and 5 boys!  Sadly all the boys have been snapped up, but I finally got to meet his gorgeous girl, her name is Betsy & I soooooo wanted to take her home with me, I am truly in love....

if this isn't a face to fall in love with I don't know what is

She is so friendly (& still rather small) and just spent 5 minutes licking my toes (!) and rolling around having her tummy tickled.  Oh how I wish I could have brought her home. x

Shopping with Mum

A couple of Friday's ago Mum & I went off to a near shopping park (Fosse Park).  We'd planned to have a wander round, and for once we didn't have to rush.  Well, we ended up being there for 6 hours!  Boy did we have fun!  It was lovely to just enjoy each other's company; me being the only daughter (& my brother being totally useless in the helpful category) means that more often than not I get all the heavy family stuff, & the fact that my Mum takes on everyone elses' problems for them, means that when we can spend time together where it's just fun has been sparce on the ground over the past 18 years.

I came home with some fab thermal thick wool knee length socks (believe me I'll need them) from M&S, they're lovely & comforting.

Mum treated me to an oh-so-soft cardi in bright purple for work,
and we brought this yummy Aztec-inspired wrap from River Island for us to share...

Hubby doesn't like it, but I LOVE it, it's so soft & so warm and looks great with jeans!  It was such a great day out & I hope we get to do it again soon. x
